------------------------------------------------------------------ Assistant Physical Plant Administrator UCI Series Concepts Class Specifications - G.20 Assistant Physical Plant Administrator - 8113 March, 1975 ****************************************************************** CLASS CONCEPT Under general direction, incumbents plan, organize, direct, and coordinate line management and staff services for one or more of the major functional divisions of campus Physical Plant operations; and perform other related duties as required. Typically, Assistant Physical Plant Administrators have line and staff management responsibility for all aspects of Physical Plant operations within their division. Physical Plant functions are typically comprised of an Operations division (building environment, utilities, housekeeping grounds, and special services) and a Construction and Maintenance division (painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, sheetmetal work, mechanical maintenance, and general labor). Incumbents act on behalf of Physical Plant Administrators in their absence and are responsible for the development and control of funds allocated to their divisions. Assistant Physical Plant Administrator positions are located on campuses where the size and complexity of Physical Plant operations require an additional level of supervision to ensure a reasonable span of control. Thus, positions at this level are distinguished from Senior Superintendent of Physical Plant positions in that incumbents manage a major functional division (Operations or Construction and Maintenance) of Physical Plant functions, while Senior Superintendent of Physical Plant positions manage one or more major functional subdivisions (central heating, grounds, custodial, etc.) within a division. Responsibility for the management of major functional divisions on a small campus is normally assigned to the Physical Plant Administrator. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from college with a major in business administration, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering or related degree, and eight years of progressively responsible experience in management of physical plant operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. ******************************************************************
