------------------------------------------------------------------ Nuclear Medicine Technician UCI Series Concepts Class Specifications - H.25 Principal Nuclear Medicine Technician - 8978 Senior Nuclear Medicine Technician - 8979 April, 1973 ****************************************************************** SERIES CONCEPT Under medical supervision; Nuclear Medicine Technicians perform or supervise the dispensing, administration, and storage of radio-pharmaceuticals; and perform other related duties as required. Incumbents store radioactive material in accordance with safety procedures; measure and prepare doses of readio-pharmaceuticals for administration to patients; compute and chart data pertaining to the administration of radio-pharmaceuticals; operate radiation detection equipment in making determinations of radioactive concentrations in patients; make calculations of radioactive decay, concentration of isotopes and physiological functions from data derived from isotope tests; and assist physicians in administering radio-pharmaceuticals to patients. CLASS CONCEPTS Principal Nuclear Medicine Technician Under medical supervision, the Principal Nuclear Medicine Technician performs a variety of duties in dispensing, administering, and storage of radio-pharmaceuticals; assists physicians in diagnosis, research, and treatment of illness or injury; and supervises the activities of a group of employees including several Senior Nuclear Medicine Technicians. Senior Nuclear Medicine Technician Under medical and technical supervision, incumbents perform a variety of duties in dispensing, administering, and storage of radio-pharmaceuticals; and assist physicians in diagnosis, research, and treatment of illness or injury. Incumbents perform the full range of nuclear medicine laboratory procedures in connection with patient diagnosis and treatment. This class is the full operational level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Principal Nuclear Medicine Technician A certificate of completion of a course in radiologic technology equivalent to that given at the University of California or graduation from college with a major in an appropriate scientific field or registration as a professional nurse, and one year of experience as a Senior Nuclear Medicine Technician; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Senior Nuclear Medicine Technician A certificate of completion of a course in radiologic technology equivalent to that given at the University of California or graduation from college with a major in an appropriate scientific field or registration as a professional curse, and one year of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technician; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. ******************************************************************
