SERIES CONCEPT

Audiologists perform diagnostic; habilitative and rehabilitative
services, and research related to bearing; and perform other related
duties as required.

Incumbents typically administer a wide variety of audiometric tents
which are designed to determine the patient's bearing level, to assist
in the identification of sites of damage to the auditory system, to
describe the amount of social disabilities resulting from the hearing
loss, and to indicate potential benefits from medical treatment and
surgery, the use of a hearing aid, and/or special training; and relate
audiometric results with other diagnostic data such as educational,
medical, social and behavioral information.

Incumbents may assist in the selection and use of hearing aids and in
the development of improved communication skills; may design and develop
clinical and research procedures and apparatus; and may teach audiology
to other professional personnel.

The series consists of two levels. Senior Audiologist is the
lead/advanced operational level; and Audiologist in the operational
level.
