SERIES CONCEPT
Farm Maintenance Workers install, maintain and repair farm buildings,
facilities and equipment; and perform other related duties as required.
CLASS CONCEPTS
Senior Farm Maintenance Worker
Under general supervision, incumbents inspect farm buildings, facilities, and
equipment to ascertain whether repairs are needed; make necessary repairs or
have work performed by other craft workers; maintain irrigation systems; and
install, repair and replace concrete pipe, stands, vents, valves, gates and
water pumps.
Incumbents typically maintain frost protection systems; install, repair and
replace wind machines, heaters, frost alarms, and thermographs; supervise the
construction or repair of farm buildings, fences and concrete structures such
as bridges, culverts and diversion dams; and maintain records of water usage
and pumping, and of fuel consumption. This class is distinguished from Farm
Maintenance Worker in that incumbents are required to perform the majority of
duties at the operational level of skill in one or more craft trades.
Farm Maintenance Worker
Under supervision, incumbents replace broken window glass, lath, floor and
siding boards, shingles and roofing; build shelves, boxes, tool bins, rough
concrete forms, and scaffolding; replace faulty electrical and plumbing
fixtures; clean, oil and service water gates, pumps, wind machines, and
heaters; and operate a variety of power and hand tools in the performance of
semi-skilled craft duties. This class is distinguished from Farm Laborer and
Laborer in that incumbents are required to perform the majority of duties at
the entry or sub-operational level of skill in one or more of the craft
trades.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Senior Farm Maintenance Worker
Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations; four years
of experience in various craft trades, with an operational level of skill in
at least one of the craft trades; and knowledges and abilities essential to
the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Farm Maintenance Worker
Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations; one year of
experience related to general maintenance and repair work; and knowledges and
abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to
the position.
