CLASS CONCEPT

Under general supervision, incumbents assist Dentists in providing oral 
health care to patients.  Dental Hygienists perform prophylactic work 
utilizing hand and mechanized instruments; conduct preliminary 
examinations of the teeth and surrounding tissues; instruct patients in 
preventive dental procedures; record evaluations of mouth condition 
and extent of prophylaxis on dental charts; take and process oral 
radiographs; clean, sharpen, and sterilize instruments; and perform 
other duties as required.

                    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a Dental Hygienist 
as determined by the California Board of Dental Examiners; and 
knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the 
duties assigned to the position.
